All you need to repair your own credit is a copy of your credit report and a dispute letter template. Yes, you read it right; that is what makes up your entire FREE credit repair kit! You can do your own credit repair completely on your own and it is one hundred percent FREE. In fact, that’s what the Federal Trade Commission recommends you do. Why spend hundreds or even thousands of dollars paying a credit repair company to do what you can do for yourself?

We’re all entitled to a free copy of our credit report each year, as described by the FTC’s website:

  • Each of the nationwide consumer reporting companies — Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion — is required to provide you with a free copy of your credit report once every 12 months, if you ask for it. The three companies have a central website, a toll-free telephone number, and a mailing address for consumers to order the free annual credit reports the government entitles them to. To order, click on annualcreditreport.com, call 1-877-322-8228, or complete the Annual Credit Report Request Form and mail it to:

This .gov site also provides you with a sample dispute letter anyone can copy to dispute items on your credit report. Simply adjust that letter to the dispute you want to make, address it to the corresponding reporting company (Equifax, Experian, and/or TransUnion), and send your letter(s) out.

Of course anyone can easily find plenty of other dispute letter templates available online. Judging from the ones I have seen, they all say about the same thing and any of them will do the job. You can certainly search around to find a sample letter you like and use it, but the one on the FTC’s site will work just as well. The site pretty much provides you with a free credit repair kit you can use to repair your credit all on your own. The only expense will be the printing and stamping of the letters, plus whatever time you have to spend doing it. The nutshell version, though, is that repairing your own credit will save you hundreds if not thousands of dollars as compared to paying a credit repair company to do it for you.
