Food That Enhance Your Metabolic Rate
Why is it that some foods help to make you fat and others don’t? This is because the foods that make you put on pounds take very little energy to burn. They are processed almost immediately and usually kept within your body as excess fat. Foods that make you skinnierare usually food items that are harder to digest and thus accelerate metabolism by utilizing more energy throughout digestion.
The foods that accelerate metabolism are considered “negative calorie foods”. Sadly these foods don’t possess any magical qualities that get rid of the amount of calories in your body (don’t we wish?). So the name can be a bit misleading, but they are still advantageous.
What really occurs is that these foods cause your body to work harder during the digestion process. Foods that boost your metabolism already contain a decreased amount of calories to begin with. Also, they are full of fibrous materials that the system can’t easily break down; consequently, it uses a lot more energy during the process.
Therefore the net outcome is your body uses more energy to transform that food into fuel (using more calories) than the total amount of calories in the food to begin with. Therefore, there is a negative quantity of calories. Basically you have used enough energy to burn up the calories of the food you consumed PLUS some more. Your body then utilizes saved fat as extra energy to complete the digestion process, thereby increasing your metabolism.
Are you baffled? Here is another example to explain what I mean.
Half of a grapefruit consists of about 40 calories and it takes your body 90 calories to break it down. You have used all of the grapefruit’s 40 calories PLUS 50 extra calories from stored fat resulting in a net calorie loss. This is where the definition of negative calories originates from.
In fact, for many people, it generally works just the opposite way. We consume a rich fudge brownie that consists of 180 calories but our system only utilizes 80 calories to absorb it. We have basically GAINED 100 calories which will be saved as fat for later use. That’s not a good thing. Unless you are working out regularly to burn up these calories, they are going to just stay there around your waist adding to your presently pudgy waist.
I have included below, a comprehensive list consisting of largely fruits and vegetables, which will help get you started with negative calorie foods that help to raise your metabolism. Use these together with your normal menu items and you should begin to observe and feel some visible modifications within your body.
Salads will always be a great option. Create your own using lettuce, tomato, onion, carrots cucumber, broccoli, cauliflower and radish. Make sure not to load up on the salad dressing. You can include toppings like raisins or sunflower seeds utilized in smaller quantities.
Steamed vegetables are a wholesome side course applying foods like broccoli, green beans, spinach, zucchini, carrots, onion, cauliflower, cabbage and asparagus. You can include garlic if you want.
A low fat fruit cup is a nutritious treat. Try employing strawberries, cranberries, mango, orange, pineapple, raspberries, tangerine, papaya, grapefruit, cantaloupe, honeydew, apple slices, and watermelon.
Smoothies are always a desired item. You can use any combination of the fruits above blended with ice or low fat frozen yogurt. You may also use these fruits in their juice form, then again fresh-squeezed is healthier as compared to juice from concentrate.
