Gout, also known as acute gouty arthritis, is a sudden onset of joint pain. This happens mostly in the legs and feet. Gout occurs when there is a build up of uric acid in the joints. Gout causes fever, joint pain, joint redness, stiff joints, and can sometimes cause skin lumps which can leak a chalky white substance.

Gout is typically associated with eating meats that contain a high amount of iron, such as liver. Some vegetables also have high amounts of purine. Purine rich foods such as lentils, asparagus, cauliflower, broccoli and dried beans and beans contribute to the development of gout. Even normally healthy are not safe from purine content. Oatmeal, wheat bran, and wheat germ extract can cause problems for gout sufferers if they are consumed in excess.
A major change in diet is an important, if not primary, natural medicine for gout. Gout is seriously aggravated by purine foods, and may even be the sole reason for the gout. Beef, iron, and pork are also purine rich foods, but these meats do not usually cause gout if they are consumed in moderation. Game meat may also contain high amounts of purine, although most people do not consume a large amount of game meat as part of a modern diet.
